Cypress, CA - The Chargers placed three players on the All-Conference team after finishing the season 12-17, advanced to the Regionals second round and finished as the 10th seed team.

Kimberly Pedregon who scored 15 goals in the season was named to the First Team.

Hernandez 2nd Team

Named to the Second Team were Sandy Hernandez (31 goals) and Jen Preciado (39 goals.)

Golden West ended Chargers run

Fullerton, CA - The Chargers' season was ended in the hand of Golden West, the top-seeded and undefeated team (24-0) in the second round by a score of 20-4. The score was relatively close after the 1st quarter as the Chargers were down only 7-3. However they were held scoreless the next two quarters and were able to salvage one goal late in the game by Sandy Hernandez.  Jen Preciado scored the first two goals for the Chargers from outside and caught the GWC's goalie offguard.

Finishing off the season in the second round was the best season for the Chargers as well as finishing in the top-ten ranking.

Fullerton, CA - For the Cypress Charger Women's Water Polo team, the only thing that was left was its teammates and the coaches. These were the only people who mattered to the players when the team met Grossmont in the first round of the SoCal Regionals.  For the Sophomores, it was leaving everything in the pool and for the Freshmen, it was about help building the future of the program, for the coaches, it was guiding these players to an experience they will not soon forget.  It happened just like that, a fairy tale, a script for Hollywood: an unproven Charger team received a bid to play in the Regionals after last weekend's OEC Championships. Cypress was the only sub .500 to receive a bid, just to say how highly the selection committee thought of the program. Playing against a team the Chargers already defeat 8-6 on September 28th proved to be even more challenging.

After falling behind 1-0 after the first period, Sophomore Utility Sandy Hernandez took matter in her own hands by scoring two quick goals to put Cypress up 2-1. But Grossmont with the revenge factor, dropped two unanswered goals to put the Griffins ahead 3-2 at the intermission.  The Chargers came out in the second half like lightning, Hernandez' hat trick lobbed goal to tie the game and Jen Preciado found the net two minutes later to give the Chargers a 4-3 lead. Grossmont scored on a slap shot at the 5;24 mark in the 4th period to tie again and the thrill went back and forth until 25 seconds to go. Grossmont with the ball and looking for the win, but Hernandez came up with another big play by stealing the ball and charging toward the Grossmont's net and dished to Preciado who burnt the net with 7 seconds laft to put the Chargers up 5-4 and eventually the final score.

The Chargers meet top-seeded Golden West at 10:15 Friday morning in the second round.

Notes: it is the first time in the Charger Water Polo history that the team was ranked 10th and the first time that the team won a Regional game.

Chargers meet Grossmont in opening round

Cypress, CA - The Lady Chargers will meet the Grossmont Griffins in the opening round of the 2012 CCCAA SoCal Regionals tournament at Fullerton College on Thursday. The Chargers (11-16) defeat Grossmont (15-11) 8-6 on September 28 at the Jet's Classic. In that game, Monique Dorado scored 2 goals and Jen Preciado had a hat trick. Kelsey Kendall came up with 7 saves.

The Chargers are 3-1 in the last 4 games, outscoring their opponents 37-19.  Cypress is one of the five OEC teams in the SoCal Regionals field of ten. The OEC teams represent half of the field.

Should the Chargers win the opening round, they will meet the top-seeded team Golden West College (24-0) on Friday.

Chargers beat SAC 17-4, qualified for Regionals

Cypress, CA - The Lady Chargers defeat Santa Ana 17-4 in the Saturday bracket to finish 5th in the OEC Championships. The victory awarded the Chargers an 8th seeded position out of ten teams in the Regionals at Fullerton starting Thursday.

OCC defeat Chargers 5-4 at buzzer in opening round

Cypress, CA - In the opening round of the OEC Championships at the Cypress Aquatics Center, the Chargers grind out the press defense and it worked for 31:57 of the 32:00 game clock. OCC scored with 9 seconds left in the 3rd period to take a 4-3 lead into the 4th. The Chargers tied the game on an outside lob shot by Monique Dorado to tie it at 4-4 with 4:54 to go in the game. The Pirates took some speedy shots at Cypress Goalkeeper Kelsey Kendall who made some spectacular stops to give her team a chance to advance into the winner's bracket. The Chargers had possession of the ball with 49 seconds to go, Sandy Hernandez made a slap shot to left side of the goal but OCC's goalie Anna Venturini made a specular save and giving the Pirates the ball with 19 seconds to go. Alyssa Thomas took a shot from the middle with Charger Sarah Oh's tight defense but managed to get the ball pass Kendall with 3 seconds to win 5-4.

The Chargers must not fighting their way out of the loser bracket on Saturday. Time will be TBD.

Chargers beat Chaffey 6-4 with defense

Cypress, CA - The Chargers avenged two earlier close losses to Chaffey to beat the Panthers 6-4 and closing out a positive note at the Battle at the Beach. The Chargers (10-15, 2-4) will have the week off and preparing for the OEC Championships in two weekends. Monique Dorado and Sandy Hernandez each scored two goals to preserve a sweet victory. It was defense that was key to the victory and captured the them for this weekend. The Chargers allowed only 22 goals in the four games this weekend.

Chargers snapped skid, beat Ventura 10-6

Cypress, CA - While most of the world were still in bed at 7AM on a Saturday morning, the Lady Chargers were in the pool facing off with Ventura in the second day of the Battle at the Beach tournament.  The Pirates beat the Chargers 11-8 at their tournament two weeks ago and Cypress was ready to avenge. Sure enough the Chargers (9-15, 2-4) had a dominated game on both end of the pool to beat the Pirates 10-6. Jen Preciado carried the offense with an 8-goal effort while GK Kelsey Kendall had 13 saves. Kendall had 5 saves on Ventura's power play. The win snapped a 7-game skid for the Chargers, a much needed momentum in preparation for the OEC Championships in two weeks.

The Chargers are closing off the tournament by facing Chaffey this afternoon at 2:35PM at the Aquatic Center.

Chargers dropped to Palomar in low scoring affair 5-3

Long Beach, CA - The Chargers cranked up their defense and allowing the lowest output by an opponent this season, however the offense did not crack. In the end the Chargers lost 5-3.  Palomar's defense concentrate well and shut out Monique Dorado from scoring. Jen Preciado, Markee Budd and Kim Pedregon scored for the Chargers. Kelsey Kendall had 8 saves and Brittany Noss had 7.

Chargers fell to LBCC 7-5

Long Beach, CA - The Chargers had to wake up at the crack of dawn and played a 7:00AM match against Long Beach City to open the 15th Annual Battle at the Beach tourney. Despite the effort, the Chargers fell to the Vikings 7-5. Monique Dorado scored 2 goals to lead the team while Kelsey Kendall had 5 saves in the goal. The Chargers will face Palomar later this morning.

#5 Hornets too much for Chargers

Cypress, CA - The Chargers hosted the #5 team that the Chargers played at the Ventura Tournament only less than two weeks ago. In that game, the Chargers competed well but lost 13-6.  Unfortunately the Hornets proved to be too much once again in defeating the Chargers 14-4 at the Aquatic Center. The Chargers played tough defense to end with a scoreless first quarter and only down 4-1 at the half. However the Hornets (18-3, 3-1) played pressure defense and forced the Chargers (8-13, 2-4) to turnovers and capitalized on them.

Cypress, CA - The Pirates beat the Chargers 10-4 at the Cypress Aquatic Center in an Orange Empire Conference water polo game.  OCC's defense was key to prevent Cypress to take good shots. The Chargers drop 8-12 and 2-3 in conference.

Chargers went 1-3 and played well at Ventura Tourney

Ventura, CA - The Chargers took part in the Ventura Tournament over the weekend and opened with a 13-8 victory over El Camino. In the night cap, Cypress lost 13-8 to Chaffey in a tight battle. Going against the host team Ventura, the Chargers lost another close one 11-8 after trailing 11-7 after 3 periods, but could only cash in 1 goal in the final period. In the last game against Fullerton, an OEC foe, Cypress could not overcome the 8-1 deficit at the half and lost 13-6. Monique Dorado scored 12 goals in the toruney, Jennifer Preciado led the pack with 14 goals. Kelsey Kendall had 24 saves for the weekend.

Tigers too much for Chargers

Riverside, CA - Riverside defeat the Chargers 13-3 in a conference game that drop the Chargers record to 2-2. The Chargers are still in contention to have a good seed at the OEC Championships next month. The Tigers' offense was being carried by Megan Guertz who took 11 shots on goals and scored five times to lead her team. Monique Dorado led the game with 13 shots on goals but only converted two nets.  Goalie Kelsey Kendall played a significant role by having 10 saves in which two were 5M shots.  The game was relatively close at the half which the Tigers led only 3-0. After three periods, the Tigers held 7-2 lead but broke the game open in the 4th with six goals. The Chargers are 7-8 overall.

Next up: The Chargers are traveling to Ventura to participate in the Ventura Tournament during the weekend of October 6.

Chargers went 2-1 at Miramar's Jet Classic

The Women's Water Polo team traveled to Miramar College in San Diego for the weekend to participate in the Jet Classic. In the first game, the Chargers beat Grossmont 8-6 behind Monique Dorado's 2 goals and Jennifer Preciado's hat trick. In the second game, the Chargers defeat Mt SAC 10-6, behind Preciado's hat trick once again. The next day, the Chargers started with OMBAC, a club team. OMBAC defeat the Chargers 16-6, in a game which goalies Kelsey Kendall and Brittany Noss combined for 9 saves.  In the last game of the tournament, the Chargers faced Chaffey and played close trailing only 3-2 at the half. Chaffey started the second hald with two quick goals and the Chargers played catch-up from that point, falling to the Panthers 9-6. Kendall had 15 saves in the losing effort.

For the tournament Kendall collected 33 saves. On offense Dorado had 6 goals while teammate Preciado had 8 goals. The Chargers are currently 7-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Chargers travel to Riverside on Oct 3 for a conference matchup.

Chargers charge back Santa Ana, win 17-11

Santa Ana, CA - Charging back is the story of Cypress Women's Water Polo tonight. The Chargers (5-6, 2-1) down 4-2 early in the 2nd period only to score 3 in a row to claim a 5-4 lead. The Dons (0-7, 0-2) respond with back to back goals to take a 6-5 lead. But the Chargers refuse to back down and retaliate with a 2-goal spurt to take a 7-6 lead at the half. The Chargers pile up a 15-8 lead after 3, and the Dons make an attempt to recover in the 4th.

The Chargers win back to back conference games to record a 2-1 league play and 5-6 overall.

Mission Viejo, CA - In a game that the Chargers need it badly to get back on the momentum wagon, they get just that. A tough roadie at Saddleback, the Chargers pull out a 15-7 victory which even their conference record to 1-1 while the Gauchos drop to 0-2. Scoring leader Monique Dorado has 3 goals, but it is Jennifer Preciado's 5 goals outburst that clinch for Cypress. Goalie Brittany Noss has a season high 17 saves while Sarah Oh adds 3 goals, another key to the Chargers' victory.

Chargers going 1-3 at Chaffey Tourney

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Chargers travel to Rancho Cucamonga to participate in the Chaffey Tournament. In Game 1, Cypress face Citrus in a thrilling game and comes away with a 12-11 victory. Monique Dorado scores 4 and Sandy Hernandez led the Chargers with 6 goals. Jennifer Preciado's 2 goals prove to be significant for the Chargers to pull off the victory. Goalies Kelsey Kindall has 6 saves while Brittany Noss has 2 saves.

In the second game, against powerhouse Riverside which proves to be too much defeats the Chargers 15-3. The Tigers does a defending job on Dorado limiting her to 1 goal in only 1 hot on goal.

The next day, the Chargers face the host team Chaffey in another exciting match. Dorado scores a goal with 4:31 to go in the match to put the Chargers up 7-6. Only to see the lead disappearing back to back goals by Chaffey inside 2 minutes to seal an 8-7 win with the Panthers. Dorado leads all scorers with 6 goals.

In the last game of the tournament, the Chargers are matched up with another powerhouse, Cerritos and loses 17-6 to the Falcons. The game is close with Cerritos only leading 9-4 at the half but the second half, Cerritos outscores Cypress 8-2.

Dorado scores 12 goals for the tournament, while teammate Hernandez adds 8.

Cypress, CA - Going against Golden West College, the top-ranked team in the state with a record of 5-0 coming in and outscoring its opponents 101-11 does not fear or concern the Chargers.  After trailing only 2-1 after one period and playing pesky water polo, the Chargers put up a fight. The game remains close as the Rustlers lead only 10-3 going into the final period and their depth of talent kicks in to defeat the Chargers 15-4.   Monique Dorado leads Cypress with 2 goals while Kelsey Kendall has 8 saves in the net.

The Chargers are heading to the Chaffey tournament this weekend.

Chargers put up a fight against OCC

Cypress, CA - The Chargers playing their second game in the day against of the top Women's Water Polo programs in the state. The Chargers fight hard in trailing only 3-1 in the first period but it is Coast's defense that confuses the Chargers' offense. Cypress gives in to a 16-6 loss however it is a good preparation for conference play as the Pirates have a date here on October 10. Monique Dorado's offense continues to spark with 4 goals, totaling her output to 12 goals for the 4 games in the Cypress Invitational this weekend.

The Chargers conclude the weekend with a 2-2 record and opens conference play against Golden West, another strong team on October12.
