Cypress Swim & Dive continues its record-breaking run in 2012.
Jacelyn Youngerman |
The Cypress College divers were also off to a good start on Day One with Sophomore Katlyn Anderson clinching a first place finish on the 1 meter board with a high point total of 181.25.

The Cypress Dive team was not done there. Freshman Frank Grey placed 1st on
the 1 meter board with a high point
total of 242.70 and 2nd on the 3 meter board with a point total of
242.70. Both scores surpass Cypress’ previous dive
score records. With notable finishes by
freshman Eric Kartchner placing 3rd on the 3 meter board with a
point total of 193.70.
The record breaking doesn’t stop there, by the weekend’s
finish 5 more school records were smashed and a new generation of the Cypress
College Aquatics team has solidified their names in the record books.
Sophomore Mallerie Lacer would lead freshman Jacelyn
Youngerman, Hannah Warkentin, and Emily Lehrman in breaking two relay records. The
200 freestyle relay was the first event of Friday afternoon. The ladies were able to touch out the
competition and place 2nd in the relay crushing the previous record
set earlier this season of 1:44.00 with an amazing 1:42.81. These ladies would not stop with one record
breaking swim and wanted more. The 400
freestyle relay was the last event of the meet. After two days of grinding swims the “Magnificent
Four” would rise to the occasion once again and finished 3rd with a
time of 3:48.44 breaking a record previously set in 1987.
As lead off in the 400 freestyle relay Jacelyn Youngerman
would break a 24 year old school record of 55.47 for the individual 100
freestyle event with a time of 55.25.
Youngerman would attack all of her races with the same force as she did
the relays and finished 1st in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle
beating out 150 other female swimmers.
With her outstanding swims Jacelyn was named women’s Crescendo Award
winner of the Pasadena Invitational meet with the fastest combined time in the
50, 100, and 200 freestyle events.
Jeff Tsim |
The men’s team was not to be outshined. Sophomore Jeff Tsim set a record in the 100
backstroke with a time of 56.31 beating the previous record of 56.55 set in
2009. Tsim also set his personal best
time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.89.
Derek Slayton |
The Cypress
team is now looking ahead to the conference championships and then onto the
State meet. It is anticipated they will
have the highest point total finishes in recent history.
